Sunday Social - March 31

Sunday Social
Linking up again with Sunday Social!

1. Favorite type of work out to do?
Dance!  Also, recently found Blogilates on youtube and I have really been enjoying that :)

This one kicks my butt :)

2. Favorite guilty pleasure candy or sweet?
I don't think I have anything specific...  If I had to pick probably jelly beans or chocolate... I like me some chocolate :)  (And Smartfood! Even though it is not candy, I loooove that stuff)

3. What is one thing you continuously forget to do?
Shave my legs.  All the time in the winter.  But not so much in the summer... maybe it is more of a 'not caring' than a 'forgetting' :)

4. Posts its or phone reminders? Why?
Both.  Because actually writing  it down helps me to remember, but my phone will beep at me and a post-it won't.

5. Favorite picture currently on your phone that always makes you smile?
80's bowling night :)

Have a great week everyone :)

HAPPY EASTER!

Perfect is boring

Why is being perfect such a goal in our society?  Even the people or things that are held up as our unattainable mark of perfection are so far from perfect.  So why pretend that they are?

I guess that what I am trying to say is that I hate it that the media says we all need to look the same all the time and they keep switching around what that sameness is... it is so confusing if you try to keep up with it and just so arbitrary.  What is it?  Some person in an office somewhere says that this is 'the next big thing' and all of a sudden it is?  Or are there a few people who are influential enough to pull everyone else with their whims and ideas?  And why do we follow?  Because we all do to some degree or another.  We are all shaped by this intangible,  unachievable idea of beauty.   It shapes how we look at everyone around us and what we choose to wear in the morning, it shapes the music we listen to and how we spend our money.  And that is a scary thought.

This is something that I have really been struggling with for the last year... What is beauty?  Why does something need to be perfect to be beautiful?  I think that often the thing that makes something so beautiful is its imperfections because those 'imperfections' make it different...  Beauty to me is not something that is plastic and always the same, beauty is alive and always changing, it can something that you stumble upon unexpectedly or something that you see everyday across the table. But, it is different for everyone.  And that is why it is so powerful.

what I'm listening to right now...

A few of my all time favorites.   And look! It's another City Harmonic song!  :)

Monday, 18 March 2013

1. It hurts to love someone and not be loved in return.
But what is more painful is to love someone and never
find the courage to let that person know how you feel.

2. A sad thing in life is when you meet someone who
means a lot to you, only to find out in the end that it was
never meant to be and you just have to let go.

3. The best kind of friend is the kind you can sit on a
porch swing with, never say a word, and then walk away
feeling like it was the best conversation you've ever had.

4. It's true that we don't know what we've got until we lose
it, but it's also true that we don't know what we've been
missing until it arrives.

5. It takes only a minute to get a crush on someone, an
hour to like someone, and a day to love someone-but it
takes a lifetime to forget someone.

6. Don't go for looks, they can deceive. Don't go for wealth,
even that fades away. Go for someone who makes you
smile because it takes only a smile to make a dark day
seem bright.

7. Dream what you want to dream, go where you want to go,
be what you want to be. Because you have only one life and
one chance to do all the things you want to do.

8. Always put yourself in the other's shoes. If you feel that it
hurts you, it probably hurts the person too.

9. A careless word may kindle strife. A cruel word may wreck
a life. A timely word may level stress. But a loving word may
heal and bless.

10. The happiest of people don't necessarily have the best
of everything they just make the most of everything that comes
along their way.

11. Love begins with a smile, grows with a kiss, ends with
a tear. When you were born, you were crying and everyone
around you was smiling. Live your life so that when you die,
you're the one smiling and everyone around you is crying.

Sunday Social - March 17

Sunday Social

Linking up with the Sunday Social again :)  Thanks so much to Ashley and Neely for hosting!

1. Favorite thing to do on a rainy day?
Curl up with a pile of blankets, a mug of tea, and a sappy chick flick/book somewhere that I can watch the rain.  I also love camping in the rain (as long as I don't need to put up/take down in it).  The sound of rain on a tent is one of the most relaxing things ever (imho)  :)

2. Favorite thing to do on a Summer weekend?
Find a spot on a sunny beach with a good book and some snacks :)  (Or  pretty much anything with friends/family :))

3. Favorite Spring accessory?
Well I love being able to wear flats and light jackets/blazers again... But I have a really great trench coat that I picked up a few years ago and I think that is probably my favourite.  I feel like Audrey Hepburn every time I wear it :)

4. Favorite way to spend a Winter day?
Skating/playing in the snow with friends, and the promise of hot chocolate at the end :)

5. What is your favorite season and why?
I actually don't have a favourite season...  I live in Northern Ontario and we have distinct season changes here (-35C in the winter and +35C in the summer) which I love :)  And while they all have things I don't like I just try to enjoy the season that I'm in when I'm in it :)

6. Best birthday you ever had?
Probably 16th.  My family made it really special :)  Then agin this past birthday (20th) was pretty good as well... It was great to be surrounded with people that love me again :)

Have a great Sunday everyone!  (And happy St. Patrick's Day!)

The Nail Files - March 15

I actually had time to do my nails!  They were black, sparkly, and awesome.

Sally Hansen - In a Flurry

(I may have time to do my nails but it took me about a week to get a picture... at least they held up not too badly :))
Have a great weekend!  And don't forget to check out the link up :)

Sunday Social - March 10

Sunday Social

Linking up with the Sunday Social!

1. What is one movie you are terrified to watch?
The Exorcist...  I am not a fan of horror movies and this one just seems to be the worst of them all.  (Or any movie that is based on a favourite book of mine because I know that chances are they will have butchered it :P )

via

2. What is one TV show you have always wanted to get into but haven’t yet?
Lost. I know that it is over now and all, but I feel like it is one of those shows that if I got into I would really enjoy...  So far that hasn't happened.  I have tried a couple times but I can't get past season two :( Suggestions?

via

3. What is one daring activity on your bucket list?
To do something completely spontaneous.  Maybe not the most daring but I already crossed off traveling by myself for a year (ish) so....

4. Would you ever travel alone?
For sure! Not a problem. Last year I traveled to Africa and Spain all by my lonesome for 8 months :)  Definitely different than traveling with other people but fun.

5. What activities do you like to do alone?
If I am just wiped and need to flake I prefer to be alone but otherwise I am mostly fine either way... I guess it really depends on my mood but usually I am pretty easy going either way.

Have a great Sunday everyone!

love

via

I found this picture the other day and it really made me think...  In the Bible it says to love your neighbor as yourself but so often that is not the case.  The atrocities that happen everyday, the things that humans do to other humans in the name of this cause or that or simply because they are different.  Where is the love there?  Where is the love when a husband beats his wife and children?  Where is it when kids at school are bullied and ostracized?   Where is it when one country declares war on another and the young people of both nations go out to kill each other?  Where is it when a child is sold into prostitution and slavery?  How can we be the people that do these things and at the same time people who will gently rock a child to sleep or tenderly hug a grandmother?   How can the same hand that is raised in anger one moment reach out in a caress the next?  How can any of this be?
I believe that I serve a God of love.  That He created us and that He loves each and every one of us so much more than we could ever imagine.  You might expect me to say now 'How can such  a loving God exist in a world with so much hate?'  Or,  'How can a God of love let the hate happen?' But that is not my question.  I want to know how such a God can keep loving us when every time we hurt another we are hurting Him.  How much must it hurt to know that your children are tearing each other apart?  That these people that you made and love hate each other that much?  That is my question.

I went to a retreat when I was about 13 and the speaker there said that love is not a feeling it is a choice.  You may have an initial attraction but the thing that we call love, that will get you through however many years by that persons side is a choice... A choice to say 'I love you even though you just crashed my car, I love you even though you have things about you that I don't like'.  The speaker was talking about romantic love, but I think that the idea encompasses every kind of love...  I think that it really is a choice that we have to make, to love the people around us, because it is easier to hate than to love, and it is easier by far to just be indifferent.
